Weaves: Day 1
The goal is to work weaves at least once a day for the month of September. We’ll see how well that every day thing works out.
Strategy: The plan is to teach him strictly on 2x2s using the method Mary Ellen Barry describes in her article in the April 2009 Clean Run: A New Twist on Training with 2X2 Weaves.
I need to figure out how best to track our progress.
We started this method during...

It wasn't pretty, but we Q'd - twice!
I took Cisco and Riot to the PVGRC match today. Riot was entered in novice a obedience and advanced a rally. The whole point of us going was to get some additional time in the ring and to gauge where we were at.
I had never done obedience before in the ring, so I kind of knew what to expect but not completely. Fortunately Riot is willing to try just about anything so off we went. Our heeling...
Weave Seminar
Riot and I just got back from a wonderful weave seminar. Riot was the most inexperienced dog there (as we did a couple of entrances and a couple sets of channels back in Foundation 3, but nothing else.
It was amazing to watch all the dogs progress throughout the day. Especially Riot who is getting his entrances and even did some jumps to entrances too.
I’m so glad this opportunity came up...

There May Be A Retriever In There
It’s no secret that retrieving with Riot hasn’t been easy. We knew this from his puppy eval.
I’ve spent a lot of time working the retrieve with him. And slowly but surely, we’re seeing some progress.
While we were on vacation for some reason, I decided it would be cool to teach Riot how to recycle empty plastic bottles. I started giving them to him and having him carry...

A Year of Riot
I really had no idea what I was in for when I brought Riot home a year ago.
I was planning on waiting until Cisco was closer to 8 to seriously start the search for a puppy. But through a series of conversations at trials, my agility friends convinced me to start looking much sooner. After talking it over with Chris (who surprised me by agreeing right away), I immediately went and found the...

Jumps? No problem
Riot got to hang out at the TAG trial today. It was a really long day, but he was so good.
I took him out to do the practice jump between classes. I set the jump to 16” (which is the highest he’s ever jumped in class — usually we’ve kept him to 12”). Well, he went over the 16” jump and then bounced the ring gating surrounding the practice jump which was about...

Gaylan's Field Seminar and Reunion
Riot, Cisco, and I spent the weekend with a bunch of Gaylan’s dogs and owners at a reunion and seminar by Carol Cassity. We had a blast and learned so much.
The reunion was held at Rover’s Content which is also where the PVGRC field training days are held. I was a bit nervous since Riot has been to this site twice before and has never retrieved anything thrown there.
Friday we...

First Trip to Maine
I have video I need to upload of the first time we took him down to the lake. He just charged right in and loved being in the lake every day.
